5 actions to do to start your fitness journey

Updated: Feb 1, 2024

Whenever you decide to start something new in your life, the most challenging step is always the first one. Even the first step is the hardest; it is the most important because it is when you start that the opportunities will show up.

Today's blog will talk about some actions on how you can start your fitness journey. We’re going to give you tips that you can apply.

So, you decided to start your fitness journey in 2024, WONDERFUL. But now, where do you start? There is no right answer because each individual can have a personal approach. But we will show you some actions that, if you do them, will help you a lot at the beginning.

finding the way

First action

Set up your weekly schedule.

Having your week scheduled in advance is one of the best tricks you can do. When you know what you have to do in advance, you will be prepared physically and mentally for that activity.

For example:

  • Monday, at 6 a.m., I’ll start my workout at the gym. So, on Sunday night, you know you must go to bed early, or it will be hard to wake up at 5 am the next day. You also understand that you have to have your gym clothes and breakfast easy to have.

  • Wednesday, at 3 p.m., you have a doctor's appointment. So, you know that you have to leave your job 30 minutes early to go.

Be ready for what will come next, and you’ll be able to be prepared. if something happens that is not on schedule, it will be easier to manage.

Second action

Make sure what you are doing.

Your fitness journey will involve a lot of your life, so, for this reason, you must know what you are doing. Avoid going to the gym without knowing what you are doing or with professional guidance.

I’ll give you a basic example:

When you have a health problem, the first thing that you do is go to Google, right? But usually, you are not 100% sure what actions to take. In this case, you go to your doctor and ask a professional what to do.

Starting your fitness journey is the same thing; you can search online and understand a lot, but when you have professional help, it will be much safer during the entire process.

Working in this field for so long, I have seen weird things that make me nervous. Actions that the person will pay the price for in the future, and this price can be very expensive or just a few bucks, for example, spine surgery, physiotherapy, a lot of medications, and so on.

To reduce the chance of having issues in the near future, it is very important to know what you are doing and/or find professional help.

personal training

Third action

Start with what you have now.

Every condition value. Whether you have money or not, it does not matter what your situation is now. You can start right now with what you have.

During the COVID quarantine, we saw many people doing things at home that even they didn’t realize they could do. People ran in their backyards, lifted weights with backpacks, started vegetable production at home and much more.

So, if you think you can go to the gym now, that’s okay. Start at home.

If you don’t have enough money to do the 100% diet because some ingredients are expensive, that’s okay. Start with what you can afford and make adaptations. Health foods, for the most part, are not costly.

Fourth action

Keep your actions consistent.

You don’t need or have to be motivated every day, but you have to be consistent in your good actions. Remember, this is a journey and not a small project. Journeys take time, and it is hard to be motivated every single day.

Some days, you’ll feel confident and very motivated. On the other hand, some days, you will feel tired and demotivated, and both sentiments are normal. The only thing that you have to do is keep doing what you planned. In the long run, you will see the difference.

One very practical example:

  • Imagine you are running a marathon. At the beginning of the run, your motivation will give you a boost, and you’ll start running fast. But you forget that marathons are long runs, and after the 10k, you start to slow down because you spend more energy than you can afford. Now, let’s change the scenario. You have the motivation, but you also know that the race is long, and you must control your speed the entire run. Now, instead of running at a 12km/hr pace, you changed to a 9.5km/hr pace. So, now you start to save your energy for the entire run, and you will surely finish the race in less time than if you just have the motivation.

This analogy shows you that motivation is essential, or you will never start anything, but consistency is what will lead you through your journey.

Fifth action

Do not give up when the first challenge shows up.

You will face problems. They are inevitable. But what you do with them will make the entire difference during your journey.

Maybe you will have problems at work, with your family, during workouts, etc. They will show up, but you can’t give up. You can’t just let them win.

Some issues you can control, so you can find a way to solve them. You can’t control other problems, so relax and manage them.

The most important thing is you can’t let the problems lead you to a way that you don’t want to go.
