Nowadays, it is so easy to find different types of exercise routines from different people on the internet. Most people who share their routine believe it is the best one. So, the big question is, how do you choose the best exercise routine? This question is not easy and usually takes time because you’ll try some, and most will fail.
For years, I saw people at the gym trying different training methods and failing. But, when I say falling, it is because they can’t handle that routine for long or never achieve their goals. Those two reasons have a lot of whys. I’ll try to show you some of them here today. And I hope this will help you pay attention and find the best exercise routine for you at the moment.
But, before I start, I would like to emphasize that an exercise routine is very flexible and will adjust depending on your situation. I’m saying that because imagine you found an exercise routine from the winner of Mister Olympia. This exercise routine sounds perfect. But, you must consider whether you have the same lifestyle, obligations, goals and stresses as this person. Think about it.
Your goals
The first thing that you have to think about is what your goals are. Do your goals match this exercise routine?
If you think that matches, it is a good sign. Before putting it into practice, think about this exercise routine that was “sold” to you and if it matches what the person does. This is an excellent way to start developing your exercise routine.
Different goals will require different approaches. For example, a 100m runner will have a very different training routine than an athlete who runs a marathon. A bodybuilder will have training sessions that will diverge from a football player.
Your goal will help you point in the right direction to follow during your exercises.
Your actual lifestyle
Your lifestyle says a lot about you. Lifestyle is something that changes over time. This happens because people evolve and priorities change. So, wherever you are now says about you today, maybe in a few months you’ll change your lifestyle for some specific reason.
I’m talking about your actual lifestyle because I have seen many people trying to copy the exercise routine from their role model. Still, they have different lifestyles, which is almost impossible to follow.
For example, you are a huge fan of a hockey player from the NHL, and your dream is to be like him. That’s a very nice goal. But, now, at this moment, can you handle the hockey player routine? The professional hockey player lives his life for the sport; he wakes up breathing the sport and does things to improve his performance. Now, you have other obligations that stop you from following this lifestyle. The exercise routine is part of this lifestyle, so training as a high-level athlete is amazing, but if you don’t have the same actions 24/7, it will be super hard to handle, and you’ll fail and maybe be disappointed with yourself. This example works for all sports and all athletes.

Your daily routine
All of us have different routines. Some of us have a full-time or part-time job, are single, married, have two children, etc. This information will directly affect your exercise routine. If you choose one specific exercise routine that you have to work out for one hour 6 days a week, to be successful, you’ll need to find time for that. However, if you don’t have the availability to do this, this exercise routine will fail, and you’ll feel frustrated. Sometimes you just have 4 days a week for one hour, which will be enough if you follow the proper training.
But if you just have 30 minutes per day? Is it enough to have results? Of course. You have to adjust your workouts to be very efficient for this.
And if I want to become an athlete? 30 minutes a day will be enough? I can say NO. In this case, you’ll have to adjust your routine to handle the athlete training.
Your workout experience
This is one of the most important aspects that you have to care about. Do you have a body to handle that exercise routine?
Working at the gym for so long, I saw many things, and one I think is a big problem is when young adults with no experience try to copy the workout training from a bodybuilder professional. This is one of the biggest mistakes that every person can make. Your body probably is not ready to handle this specific intensity or volume. So, in the long run, you’ll start to see the consequences, such as muscle and joint injuries. This will happen because you didn’t prepare your body to handle high intensity and volume. To achieve high performance, you have to follow the periodization. If you don’t follow a good periodization, you’ll never reach high performance.
Your background
Background is important in different areas of your life for many purposes, and here, it is the same. So, How do you choose the best exercise routine based on your background?
You’ll analyze what you did in the past, if you practiced sports, how many years you worked out, what injuries you had in the past, etc. You must look back and check some factors influencing your exercise routine. For example, a former athlete will probably handle better, more intense training at the beginning than a sedentary person. A person who has a serious disease must have a different approach than someone who has been training for 4 years.
So, your background directly influences when you choose the best exercise routine.

Conclusion
Whenever you think about setting up your exercise routine, you should think about at least those things. All these topics have a direct influence on whether you will succeed in your new exercise routine or not. Remember, we are not a machine. Your body must be prepared to handle intense workout sessions, and for this, you have to follow a good periodization if you want to achieve the highest level.
